Uber Technologies Inc – Down more than 3% premarket after saying will pay drivers more to get cars back on the road as the U.S. economy recovers and also disclosed a $600 mln charge to provide UK drivers with benefits. Uber reported Q1 adj. EBITDA loss of $359 mln, narrowing losses by nearly $100 mln from the previous quarter, vs analysts expectations of adj EBITDA loss of $452 mln. The company has promised to be profitable on that metric by the end of the year, while rival Lyft Inc has projected adj. profitability starting Q3.

Etsy Inc – Reported better-than-expected earnings for the first quarter, but warned that it expects gross merchandise sales to decelerate in the second quarter, due to tough year-over-year comparisons. As we saw with other e-comm focused companies ETSY is another under intense pressure from investors to prove their businesses can continue to grow steadily in a post-pandemic world. Earnings: $1.00 per share, adjusted, vs $0.88 expected.

Fastly Inc – Down sharply this morning after the cloud service firm’s current qtr guidance came up shy of expectations and it also announced its CFO is leaving. The comapny forecast Q2 rev of $84-$87 mln and adj loss/shr of $0.19-$0.16; Street consensus was $91.7 mln/$0.09 loss/shr. Q1 results were inline with expectations with revenue up 35% YoY to ~$85 mln. The company reported a first-quarter loss of $50.7 million, or 44 cents a share, compared with a loss of $12 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-ago period. The adjusted loss was 12 cents a share, compared with 6 cents a share in the year-ago period.

Peloton Interactive Inc – Set to extend declines from Wednesday’s session this morning after the company was forced to recall its treadmill and treadmill+ products and will stop selling them in the U.S. after a child died and more than 70 safety incidents were reported, walking back its earlier position that the devices were safe if used properly. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a joint statement Wednesday. Consumers who have purchased either treadmill should immediately stop using it and contact Peloton for a full refund.

Moderna Inc – Raised its 2021 sales forecast for its COVID-19 vaccine by 4.3% to $19.2 billion on Thursday, reflecting demand from countries looking to return to normalcy through rapid inoculation. Earlier this week, Larger rival Pfizer said it expects $26 billion in sales of its COVID-19 vaccine this year. Moderna had in February forecast vaccine sales of $18.4 billion. The drug maker reported revenue of $1.9b compared to revenue of $8b in the same period a year ago missing expectations while its EPS number beat.

Rocket Companies Inc – Another earnings miss here, shares are down sharply after reporting EPS that missed expectations by $.01 while revenue also came in below expectations. Q1 Revenue rose 236% to $4.6b. During the quarter RKT shares saw outsized moves and became among stocks experiencing gyrations after becoming a focus of investors on sites such as Reddit’s WallStreetBets.

ViacomCBS Inc – In its first quarterly report since being caught up in the Archegos mess VIAC posted quarterly revenue that beat Wall Street estimates, driven by growth in affiliate fees and an uptick in broadcast TV advertising thanks to the Super Bowl airing on its CBS network. Despite intense competition from major streaming players like Netflix and Disney+, ViacomCBS was also able to capitalize on its platform Paramount+ through its sports and news broadcast, as some live sporting events resumed. Affiliate fees, which refer to the fees collected from cable, satellite and online distributors, gained 5% at $2.08 billion in the first quarter.

PayPal Holdings Inc – Higher this morning after reporting record quarterly profit as the online financial transactions service benefited from an e-commerce trend boosted by the pandemic. PayPal said it made a profit of $1.1 billion in the recently ended quarter, compared with $84 million in the same period last year. The company said it processed 4.4 billion payment transactions in the quarter, with a total value of $285 billion. Revenue in what the company said was its best first-quarter financial performance ever was $6.03 billion, up 31 percent from the same period last year.
