Tesla Inc – Higher premarket after yesterday’s impressive 13% rally, the company announced over the weekend it delivered nearly 1m cars in 2021, an increase of 87% over the previous year. The company did catch some negative press late yesterday announcing it has opened a showroom in Xinjiang has attracted criticism from U.S. rights and trade groups, making it the latest foreign firm caught up in tensions related to the far-western Chinese region.
Apple Inc – Topped the $3T market cap level yesterday also hitting new all-time highs. The stock rose nearly 35 percent in 2021 driven by the growing demand for the new iPhone 13, in addition to TV, music and storage service subscriptions. Sales went up nearly 30 percent equivalent to more than USD 83 billion in the third quarter of 2021, which ended last September, while the company is sitting on USD 191 billion in cash.
Ford Motor Co – Announced this morning it will have capacity to produce 600,000 battery electric vehicles/year within 24 months, doubling previous estimates. The company also doubled its manufacturing targets for its new electric version of the F-150 pickup truck, targeting 150,000 per year. Ford said the increased production plans reflect high demand for the model. Almost 200,000 reservations have been placed for the opportunity to order one of the trucks.
Nvidia Corp – Trading higher after self-driving truck company TuSimple Holdings said it has partnered with Nvidia to use the company’s vehicle chips to design and build an advanced autonomous driving computer for its self-driving trucks. The computer, known as a domain controller in the automotive industry, will be specifically engineered for TuSimple’s commercial self-driving trucks, and will power sensor perception and vehicle operation.
Foot Locker – Sharply lower on light volume premarket after J.P. Morgan Securities downgraded it to “underweight” from “neutral,” pointing to cost pressures and tougher competition.
