Moderna Inc – Sharply lower premarket after the company’s CEO Stephane Bancel told Britain’s Financial Times that current vaccines were not likely to be as effective against it. He also warned it could take months to begin shipping a vaccine that works against the new variant. Bancel’s comments drove fears that vaccine resistance could lead to more sickness and prolong the health crisis. In a similar move Regeneron has come out this morning saying its antibody treatment may also be less effective against the new variant.
Pfizer Inc – Higher despite vaccine efficacy concerns, the EU drug regulator in a parliament briefing Tuesday has said “very promising” data is coming from initial antiviral treatment studies from both MRK and PFE. JPM increases PT on the stock from $42 to $53.
Travel Stocks – The group back under pressure in early trading following the warnings from both MRNA and REGN. Airlines, Hotels, Cruise Operators and travel related website company’s are all down between 2-3% in early trading. Even BA shares are down 2% to start. At Home Stocks – Similar to Friday’s overall market move we’re seeing these stocks all trading higher premarket on the fresh covid related concerns. NFLX, ROKU, ZM, PTON, ETSY are all trading higher between 2-3%.
Tesla Inc – Slightly lower to start after Monday’s rally, CEO Elon Musk late on Monday cited supply chain issues when asked about an update on the production of co’s much-awaited Cybertruck, saying “I will provide an updated product roadmap on next earnings call”.
Advanced Micro Devices – Trying to go red to green premarket and looking to add to its impressive 3 session rally. Recent announcements of further chip usage from Tesla and Tencent have provided the positive catalyst for the stock.
Twitter Inc – Back on watch after yesterday’s CEO announcement, multiple analyst moves on the stock this morning, brokerage Piper Sandler says TWTR’s CEO change is not a complete surprise and views it as a “modest positive”. JP Morgan says “the timing perhaps more of a surprise than Jack’s departure overall”
Cumberland Pharmaceuticals – The drugmaker’s shares jump over twofold premarket after U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved its Caldolor, a non-narcotic pain reliever, for preoperative administration. The product may now be administered just before surgery to allow patients to wake up from the procedure in significantly less pain according to the company.
First Wave Biopharma – Announced independent data monitoring committee provides positive interim safety assessment for Part 2 COVID-19 RESERVOIR clinical trial of Niclosamide for the Treatment of Gastrointestinal Infections.
Erytech Pharma – Late on Monday, the company said it has received U.S. patent covering methods of treating solid tumors by administering the enzymes – methioninase and asparaginase.
